![]() Due anni dopo, nel 1579, fu data alle stampe l?edizione in lingua francese in prosa, perché Heyns non aveva avuto il tempo necessario per la resa in versi, col titolo Le Miroir du Monde. ![]() La lastra fu utilizzata solo per poche edizioni dell'opera, di qui la sua rarità.Esemplare tratto dalla seconda edizione in lingua francese de Le Miroir du Monde.Le Miroir du Monde è l?edizione in lingua francese in prosa dello Spieghel der Werelt, il primo atlante tascabile pubblicato nel 1577, in lingua olandese, da Philip Galle, con testo in rima curato da Peeter Heyns, e stampato dalla tipografia Plantin.Lo Spieghel der Werelt era una versione ridotta del Theatrum Orbis Terrarum di Ortelius.Le lastre, quasi tutte derivate dal Theatrum, furono disegnate e incise da Philip Galle. A differenza delle altre carte dell'Epitome, questas mappa ha un formato più largo. Rara carta dell'Europa disegnata e incisa da Philippe Galle per la prima edizione del suo Spieghel der Werelt, tascabile, il primo atlante tascabile, edito nel 1577 in lingua olandese.La mappa, sostanzialmente basata su quella grande edita nel Theatrum Orbis Terrarum di Ortelius, rispetto alla quale è più aggiornata e ricca nella toponomastica, presenta numerosi elementi decorativi, quali navi e mostri marini. ![]() mapas, ortelius, áfrica, siglo XVII, geografía, abisinia, preste Juan. En cualquier caso, se tiraron de esta edición 325 planchas del total de 7.300 copias del mapa que vieron la luz entre 1573 y 1612. Nuestro ejemplar puede corresponder, atendiendo a la última línea de texto y al número de página, a las ediciones españolas de 1609, 1612 o 1641. La primera edición española del Theatrum de Ortelius es de 1588. Incluye, además de las cartelas con motivos geográficos y arquitectónicos, varios elementos decorativos como elefantes, barcos y peces. Los cruzados, por su parte, creían que el preste Juan se convertiría en su aliado en la protección de Tierra Santa contra los sarracenos y de Europa contra otros pueblos invasores. Los portugueses lo buscaron en el este del continente africano a finales del siglo XV y comienzos del XVI. Durante siglos los europeos lo buscaron, primero en Asia y después en África. Esta figura, el rey mítico de las tierras africanas, libraba supuestamente una guerra contra los infieles del continente. En la esquina superior izquierda encontramos, en cartela, una dedicatoria al rey David encima de la cual puede verse el escudo de armas del preste Juan.
